I either managed to skim over the part where Milk had a relationship with this young man in California, or the relationship happened in NY. I suppose the point is moot, because as far as I can tell the age of consent with parental agreement in NY is 16, but without it is 18. At least by the records for today. I don't know if that's changed from the 1960's. In one website, I saw the age of consent for NY to be 17. Without knowing when exactly their relationship began, and what exactly the age of consent was back in the free-wheeling 60's, I can't establish clear context. If someone can help me ascertain this, I would appreciate it. Anyway, that puts Milk in statutory rape area, but not pedophilia. I also didn't see statements anywhere except in anti-gay propaganda that he preyed on "boys" (note the plural) - there are only specific relationships mentioned in his bio, and only one in the SR area. If there's evidence for him 'preying' on multiple young people, I'd like you to produce it. It's not that difficult - even for an ignorant carpenter.

I don't condone having relationships with people who are underage, and won't speculate as to whether or not the young man lied about his age - unless someone wants to produce more evidence than the notation in the address book.

I take deep offense with you assuming the reason why McKinley committed suicide, though. You just said you were a woodworker - not a psychologist. Don't presume to understand the effects of mental illness or how they manifest, particularly when combined with a sexuality preference that continues to receive extreme hatred.
