So, from an evolutionary point of view, it should be no surprise that the current superpower is a highly discriminating unit. Indeed, some also think that religion is another factor in group success. Religion/morality is a binding and inspiring force.
That's the nature of human history. Civilisations fall because they become fat, lazy and disunified, while some lean, hungry and cohesive group gathers strength outside the gates. It's only a matter of time before the barbarians invade and take over.
But despite the USA's cohesive mindset (relative to Europe), it is actually falling apart, and the world is soon to be ruled by a hungry, and extremely uniform, aggressive China.
That's human nature, a story of group fitness.
