When you think about it, hell can be considered an unknown place where you will suffer all kinds of bad tortures. Looking back in history I'm sure that the black Africans who were loaded on strange ships in chains and spent weeks crossing the sea to strange lands far from home thought that they were going to hell. And when the Indians were forced into concentration camps they must have felt like they were in hell as well.
Most of the time you don't have to die to go to hell. You can experience it living right here on Earth. After that, why would anyone fear a hell after they're dead?
