Our foreign policy towards Israel should be decided the way we decide any foreign policy - what is in the best interest of the US and the world. Of course it is in our interest to keep a friendly ally in that region, but we must continue to discourage unwarranted aggression as we have been.
And if today's Israel was the Israel of the bible, then our foreign policy should be other than what is in the best interest of the US and the world?

Indeed, it is a delicate balancing act requiring supreme skill.
For example we have to simultaneously cozy up with and demonize the Chinese, that way the Chinese will keep loaning us the money that we can turn into profits for our defense sector firms.
When the Chinese wants their money back, I somehow doubt the funds will come out of the bottom line of the defense firms.
