Ah, yet again the "holiest" place on Earth is the deadliest.

Israel's armed forces and Palestinian militants exchanged rocket fire on Tuesday as days of fighting centered around one of the holiest sites in the world for Muslims, Jews and Christians snowballed into another deadly flare-up in a decades-long conflict. The bloodshed was likely to get worse, as both sides threatened to escalate their attacks.

I can remember an episode of Hey Arnold where the kids cleaned up a vacant lot so they could turn it into a baseball field. It works out fine, but then the adults find out about it and decide they want it for themselves. They try to play ball anyway, and the adults get in the way. So they leave, and even the adults can’t agree on what they want to do with it. They have enough of the bullshit and they empty a dumpster on the vacant lot, telling them if they want it so bad, they can have it the same way they found it: a dump.

There are points where I seriously think the area should be evacuated, with everyone, Arab, Israeli, or maybe even Bedouin if they count as a distinct group from the Arabs moved away from the nations they fought so much for, and NATO can just nuke the site from orbit and make it the biggest display of “this is why we can’t have nice things” in human history. Of course, moral questions aside, there’s no way in Hell this can happen.
