A claim such as this by this christian is absolute nonsense. Coming from the Christian faith to atheism through my study of astrophysics, I will do my best of defend the evolution aspect of this argument.
the speed of light (186,000m/s) is what in physics is called the cosmic speed limit or the universal constant. Without its constant unchaining measure our formulas in physics that help derive our understanding of the universe would not work. Such as Einstine's famous E=MC2 formula, which state that Energy is equal to the mass of an object times the speed of light squared. it is this formula that helped up to understand how the stars could generate so much energy in their cores through the process of nuclear fusion. To assert that the speed of light changes in nothing short of a dilution preached by this particular faith to aid in their argument that the Earth is young. When in reality if the speed of light actually did change, life on Earth would not exist.
it is theorized that substances in the universe may even travel faster than the speed of light, thus the reason that we cannot detect them. Dark Matter for example, is an undetectable matter, that is theorized to exist due to the mathematic equations calculating more mass in the universe than can be detected. It does not mean that it does not exist, it could mean that because it could travel faster than the speed of light is postulated to be the reason that it is a mystery. Had this matter traveled slower than the speed of light, the universe that we know it could not exist because this mysterious matter could very well be in addition to gravity what hold the galaxies together.
I heard many of these arguments while I was a christian. only when i started my degree program in astrophysics did I really understand how unintelligent and for that matter how undependable this position is. As the science of astronomy advance and can be proved without argument much like helocentrism in the past, only then will this logical absurdity cease among the devout religious. when their God is seen as less and less powerful, only then can they really see how stupid this argument is.

Whatever unseen, no matter how improbable, must be the cause.
