It's just a tool, and like any tool there are times when it is effective and times when it is not. Also, just like any other tool, there are times that you -could- use it, but some other tool does the job just as well with less effort/less waste/less damage. Some people beat their children. They beat them senseless and for no reason whatsoever (or at least, no reason that I wouldn't strangle them for). I don't think that anyone who spanks their kid is arguing that breaking some kids nose is a good way to get him to stop wetting the bed. If they are, fine...fuck em - but I don't want to hear any bitching from that corner when cps shows up, you know? Maybe breaking his nose did stop his bedwetting, I don't care, neither do the rest of us, right? None of us hang our hats on whether or not it works (and that's good...because brutality does work, it will establish control, we break at some point dogs and people both).
Whats the point of these threads if we're going to take cartoonish positions of absolutism? How many pages of amens do we have to see before we all agree that we all already agreed that spanking is bad, forever and ever, in any circumstance?
