Seems like the latter. Being so politically motivated it seems they take every word any one utters as motivated to have an effect which they or either for or against. If it's for, you're in. If it's against, you're simply the enemy and what you say doesn't need understanding beyond that necessary to sort your intent; then they'll go on to tell you what a tool of the machine you are or hurl invective.
