Because it's ubiquitous. Everyone does it. If you convince people it's bad, they should feel guilty, and you have the cure, you'll have them coming back to you to fix their problem forever.

Yet, the Christian's the Catholic's all dance around this issue. The Christians argue that "Jesus" will forgive them. The Catholics argue that when they took their vows they were not absolutely certain that they wanted to get married, or something like they didn't know everything that a marriage would entail ahead of time -- so the marriage never was "valid". And therefore no marriage ever existed so they didn't really get divorced.
The thing you'll never catch them admitting is that as much as culture is shaped by religion, religion is also shaped by culture. Two hundred years from now, people will be cherry picking different sections of the Bible than they do today to justify different behavior... just like they did hundreds of years ago. People used to use the Bible to endorse slavery. Now, those parts are quietly swept under the rug.
BTW, welcome!
Thank you. I agree with your point about masterbation. That makes sense.
I have noticed that the conservative Christians get especially worked up about masterbation, women's naked nipples, and marijuana. Is a single one of those things mentioned in the Bible? In fact it seems to me that Paul wanted women to cover their heads too. Maybe I'm wrong. I would have to go back and look.
Really they probably did me a favor by banning me. I was wasting time there. Really there are better things to do with my time.
