It was a tiny independent State that was smaller than the land that Israel presently occupies - much of which is being occupied against international law and in defiance of the UN.
Yassir Arafat actually said so, that name was concocted as a political tool.
The best way to think of Palestine is like a much smaller Turkey - but before it became a developing country. A small independent State with no political conflicts with the Arab nations around it. Politically neutral. If you think that Palestine never existed then explain this map published in 1895:

Maybe you can find me a Map published before 1948 showing the region attributed to Palestine being attributed to another country then? It's up to you to prove your claim. I believe modern historians trace the state of the Palestinian State as an independent country back to around the 1820's - as you know Israel formed State in 1948 well over 100 years later.

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
