I was watching the cricket (we won for a change) and one of our best players is a muslim with a full beard, and it got me thing about some of the trivial things that religion makes you do. Not shaving is one of them, which afflicts some muslim sects - not all, I think - some fundamentalist Jewish sects, and Sikhs, who also have to wear a turban, have a comb in their hair and carry a knife.
Disclaimer here: I don't really know much about this stuff so there could be errors.
A ban on pork is another, there's no real reason for it. No bacon and eggs for breakfast. Only muslims and jews afaik.
The birth control thing is not really trivial, I suppose, so I'll leave it out, along with circumcision.
Lent and ramadan probably fall into the trivial category, along with fish on Fridays. The extreme measures that jews adopt to avoid working on the sabbath are amazing, like refusing to tear off toilet paper, which must be a bit messy. Hindus and cows is another thing. I suppose buddhists do some stuff but I don't know what it is.
What on earth is the point of all this nonsense? Why is shaving important, along with bog paper?
