The south having worse food? I don't think that they actually tried any southern food. What'd they do, eat at Dennys?

Too much refined sugar with everything, too many ingredients in the food (eg the American hot dog being: white bun, frankfurt, mustard, relish, cheese, onion, bacon - the Australian version being a sausage, onion and a slice of bread with tomato sauce or mustard). I'm not dissing the American hot dog, personally I like it but it's to excess when it's the standard.

And too much tinned fruit and vegetables. They said they ordered green beans at a restaurant and got tinned beans battered and deep fried! That's just about the most disgusting thing I've ever heard.

Our laws are so gigglesome in this regard, that -some- folks who want "unadultered" food, actually form buyers clubs around producers who market their product as pet food "not for human consumption" -officially-....but service and entirely human customer base who has no intention of feeding their unpastuerized milk (or air dryed, aged, blackened sausage)to a cat (and couldn't afford to anyway, shit's expensive - kitty gets the kibble).

Milk is just about the only thing that is pasteurised - it'd be good if eggs were (or if they were at least available) then you could eat them raw without needing to worry about salmonella. The only law that doesn't make sense relates to cheese - in Australia cheese has to be produced using pasteurised milk, whereas the final product is pasteurised anyway so if you want the gourmet cheeses you really have to buy imported ones.
