What does a marquee player in the NFL, on one of the NFL's major market teams, who represents the NFL, have to do with the NFL?Call me anti big brother, but I think what happened in that elevator is between mr and mrs rice and the police if either party is inclined. The rest of us should bugger off.
The NFL has a personal conduct policy. They take action to protect their image, because the NFL is a multi-billion dollar business. They suspend people for a bevy of things, regardless of the legal action taken---so long as the player's personal conduct is detrimental to the league. Case in point: Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault, but never charged by the police. He served a 4 game suspension.
The NFL will protect its image. So Ray Rice punching his fiance unconscious has a lot to do with the NFL.
The nfl promotes and awards multi million dollar contracts to the biggest and fastest Incredible Hulk type of people they can find. Why is anyone surprised when 'hulk smash?' That is what everything in his life is geared toward, granted their needs to be a line drawn and if the hulk can't stay with in the lines then he needs help not sanctions, and ridicule.
How much help do you think mr and mrs rice will get now that the money is gone?

I agree that the reaction by the team and league are inexcusable. Rice's explanation was that she had attacked him and thus he struck in self-defense, but she's not a physically imposing person. Rice stands 5' 8" tall and weighs around 215 lbs, and as a pro-athlete his build is thick with muscle. Palmer appears shorter, and based on her physique may be less than half of Rice's weight. The idea that he had to knock her unconscious out of some attempt to defend himself from attack is laughable, but until the video came out the league/team thought that they could just shrug their shoulders and say "we don't really know what happened." As if a guy bludgeoning his girlfriend and dragging her around like a sack of garbage might be mitigated by a few seconds of corroborating video.
Holy cow, I didn't know all that. I just looked up on google the timeline of events. Wow.
The saddest fact of all was that she still went through with marrying him. After the assault. Abuse is a hard thing to understand. Ive been in abusive relationships and they're hard to leave because you don't think you deserve better.
She had that mindset, sadly. Love has nothing to do with accepting abuse.
Thank you for those facts!
Or maybe she figures 40 million dollars will help soften the next blow, if things escalates the way they did.
