One can hope, but it's not likely based on historic incumbent reelection rates consistently being over 80% (the House is almost always over 90%). This means that unless the incumbent isn't renominated in the primary process we can expect more of the same. This year 273 of the 275 incumbents up for reelection were renominated; therefore, we're fucked.
This suggest that despite the pathetic approval ratings, most everyone thinks of his/her representative and senators as exceptions. This is similar to people exempting their kid's teachers from broader criticism of the quality of public education.
