After Months Of Procrastination

After Months Of Procrastination
Turned my membership resignation letter in to the Church today. One via email to the records office, one parcel to the recorders office, one parcel to my stake president, and one parcel to my branch president.

Can you tell I wanted to make sure this would happen on the first go? 4 contact methods and it better work.

Been holding off for nearly nine months. Something about it scares me. Afraid it will some how reach the ears of my family and start another fire. Things are pretty quiet now. Lost everyone with the exception of my family. But if this warrants the final disown gesture from my family and a permanent one this time, I wont be too bummed out. After some time you get used to being alone that being alone becomes home. I'm not going to force people to stay in my life.

Anyways, time to catch some sleep and focus on studies and the job search tomorrow.

Letter:

This letter is my formal resignation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it is effective immediately. I hereby withdraw my consent to being treated as a member and I withdraw my consent to being subject to church rules, policies, beliefs and 'discipline'. As I am no longer a member, I want my name permanently and completely removed from the membership rolls of the church. My resignation should be processed immediately, without any 'waiting periods'. I am not going to be dissuaded and I am not going to change my mind.

I have given this matter considerable thought. I understand what you consider the 'seriousness' and the 'consequences' of my actions. I am aware that the church handbook says that my resignation "cancels the effects of baptism and confirmation, withdraws the priesthood held by a male member and revokes temple blessings" I also understand that I will be "readmitted to the church by baptism only after a thorough interview". I expect this matter to be handled promptly, with respect and with full confidentiality.

After today, the only contact I want from the church is a single letter of confirmation to let me know that I am no longer listed as a member of the church. I am not interested in second chance advertisements or reading suggestions presented to salvage my "salvation." I no longer identify with any of the beliefs and dogmas that the Church has to offer so I suggest that the Church saves some postage. I would love to spend time explaining my "apostasy" and my reasons for leaving but instead I will leave with two very important quotes that started it all:

“Well, we have nothing to hide. Our history is an open book. They may find what they are looking for, but the fact is the history of the church is clear and open and leads to faith and strength and virtues.”
- President Gordon B. Hinckley

"If we have the truth, [it] cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed."
- J. Reuben Clark, counselor in the First Presidency

Hence the words that started a vigilant search for truth in my life, granted by the establishment itself.

Disclaimer: For many ex-mormons, resigning is kind of a big thing. Something incredibly difficult to do for some. So if I come off pretentious, I assure I only mean to convey triumphant feelings of freedom. Well at least this time, I can have a tendency to be pretentious. haha.
