It's like any other social group. Being part of the group makes them attractive to each other. It also warns off others. It's signaling.

Besides the obvious, one of things I found funny about this video is that the gamer family looks so normal.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
