Before that or what the universe is expanding into is non-dimensional of which there is no knowledge except through revelation. -snip-Somehow, I get the feeling that none of this was even up for consideration by Christians until science chipped away at the idea that the sky was a dome over a flat Earth that god used as a footstool. It'd be interesting to see just how the explanations changed through the ages as more knowledge became available and god wasn't where he was expected to be found. I also wonder when was the first time someone finally got exasperated enough to exclaim "science can't explain EVERYTHING" because they were tired of pushing god into one corner after another.
