It is a big problem. How do you distinguish between superstitious delusions and mental illness?

We are told we have to respect some delusions, and lock people up for others. The distinction only seems to come when the delusions start to have a drastic effect on the person or others, I suppose.

He sounds like he has given himself over, deliberately or otherwise, to fantasy over reality. I'm sorry you have had to see your friend go through this, and I hope that by feeding him some truth and critical thinking, he may be saved.
