That's not how Christianity was leashed. It was leashed by people who professed to be Christians and professed to love Christianity.

It was NOT Christianity that made the west more civil, it was our evolutionary sense of empathy. Yes people who claimed to be Christians claimed it was Christianity that lead to our modern civility. IT WAS NOT!
Anymore than a rabbit's feet or lucky bat gets you a home run. Humans simply got tired of the barbarity and their empathy kicked in, falsely attributing it to the religion of the time does not change that evolution has always produced both cruelty and compassion.
