I'm kinda split on the issue.
I hate radicalism of every color. Regardless if it's religiously motivated or follows some secular doctrine. My problem is, that muslim bashing is all the rage right now. We're talking about 1.4 billion people here and they're coming in all shapes and colors.
That's why I have a problem with the Maher/Harris controversy. While I totally agree with their evaluation of Islam, I'm not comfortable with painting all Muslims with the same brush of generalisation. People listen and are influenced by media and the general terror hysteria we're experiencing since 2001. It kind of justifies the hatred of some, who usually don't ask twice when some new soundbites can be added to their arsenal of prejudices. I always say, try to insert "jew" instead of "muslim" in some of the generalising quotes and you kind of get the picture.
Coming from a family that lost a great deal of members to the Holocaust, I'm just not very comfortable with painting a certain group of people with the same negative brush.
