For far too long we have allowed GOP to control wallet issues and have been masters at using social issues and scare tactics of coded language to paint Dems as evil commies and fascists if you even dare suggest the top can pay more.
In that 30 years when you average out the overall control of congress the majority of the time it has been under GOP control. Not because GOP has better ideas. This loss is simply the continuing failure of Dems to keep focus on the dirty tactics the 1% use to maintain the status quo.
When they see restlessness they have learned to throw just enough crumbs at voters to get them lulled into a false sense of security.
Wages will go up, problem is so will the cost of living. Not because it has to, but because business is dictating to workers what they get instead of bargaining which is what built the middle class after WW2.
We have to stop sucking at our messaging. The 1% does not really give one fuck about abortion laws, or pot use, or gay marriage or gun death. They use social issues to get voters to vote against their own self interest.
Some red states for example have put wage increases on the ballot, and every single one voted for that. Problem is with even with the increase, it is still not enough for families with kids. And also we are STILL producing far more part time jobs, and we still have tax shelters for the rich and free trade policies that are long term going to hurt us.
The rich have mastered the crumb throwing to keep real change at bay. It is still ultimately a corporate bullying tactic and a monopoly of money on government. Throw just enough at voters without actually doing anything productive.
That's a bunch of rationalization. Democrats having been courting the same groups of people for over 30 years and those groups are still in the same circumstances as before. All they do is talk about all the great intentions they have and then blame the republicans when nothing gets done. How are you going to get big business to go along with the program when you set them up as enemies? Do you think you're going to get business to hire more people and pay higher wages by calling them evil and taxing them more? The government needs to be able to work with businesses to promote policies that result in employment growth and are beneficial to all parties. I think the best democrat president in my time was Clinton. He knew how to work with the republican dominated congress and got things done, like some solid welfare reforms. Democrats and republicans in congress don't think for themselves anyway. If each member voted according to their true ideas, things might be okay no matter which party is in power. For example: every single democrat in the Senate voted for Obamacare and every single republican voted against it. Could there possibly be one democrat who thought it was a bad idea or one republican who thought it was a good idea? So we vote the republicans in and they mess things up, so we throw them out and send democrats and let them mess things up for awhile before we go back to the republicans again.
How the fuck dare you claim we set business up as enemies. Fuck you and your bullshit black and white thinking.
Business ARE dictating to us, that is done to us not by us. There was a time when business was working with workers, that time is not now and has not been for 30 years.
FYI GOP voters and other businesses will not listen to RICH PEOPLE LIKE THEM whom dems value, like COSTCO and Moo Cluck Moo and billionaires like Nick Hanauer who agree workers need more money in their wallets.
THE RICH set us up as their enemies instead of doing the right thing and valuing workers. You've got to be out of your fucking mind if you think the totality of big business is about helping workers. They have and the GOP have been eroding wokers pay, workers hours and workers bargaining power.
We would like the totality of most businesses to be like COSTCO. We would like more billionaires like Nick Hanauer who agrees with liberals. But this war on the lower classes was not started by the middle class and working poor, it was started by greedy fucks.
Liberals do not hate wealth or the private sector, we hate greed and monopolies of money dictating lawmaking. WE means something in WE the people. The rich have forgotten that.
