All of the explanations for why god won't show himself are attempts to work around the thorny problem of god not showing himself. Some theists will claim that even if he showed himself, atheists would not believe in god. Which seems like a reversal of their approach: not having seen god and explaining that he is utterly undetectable, they nonetheless insist he's there.
God is an inference to the best explanation. scientists sometimes postulate ideas that are unobservable in order to explain the data that is observed for instance dark energy.
Atheist Credo: A universe by chance that also just happened to admit the observer by chance.
