Did you explain to your child that a world wide flood meets every detail you posted and actually speeds up the process by depositing all that sediment in a years time. So you see I do not need to correct myself and maybe you need to take a lesson or two from your 7 yr. old. End of discussion.

Demonstrate your assertions, then. Should be easy, if it had any basis in reality. All I hear right now is a whole lot of flapping.

If you can't see how a world wide flood would create enough sediment to cover the animals that drowned then an explanation would do you no good. But, I'll try to make this simple for you.
Things that happen during any flood, currents are formed and all things caught in the flood are gathered together in these currents. Animals drown and bloat floating to the surface, the gases are released as the animals decompose and they sink to the bottom and many times as a group. These currents move the animals to different places around the earth, so the animals are deposited in groups in many places. The sediment that would settle before the animals sank is what they are deposited on and as the waters recede the sediment that's washed from the higher ground is washed onto the dead animals burying them under massive amounts of sediment. There's also the sediment that settled onto them during the flood together this adds up to an incredible amount of sediment in a years time. Also this would account for the great extinction of many animals, leaving only the animals that could survive the new earth left behind after the flood. This also explains why trees are found standing vertical through so many different layers of sediment, because in a flood that great many layers of sediment would be laid down due to the weight of the different materials washed loose from the ground during such a disaster. One event of this magnitude can eliminate the need for millions of years.
