I understand that many people are born into their faith but there is a lot of information today available about different religions. Why not join a softer version of your own faith or convert into something with a nice, friendly deity or deities. Or just make something up like Mormonism or Scientology.
That's a step that I considered taking, once I made the decision that I could really be a christian. The problem with the nicer versions of christianity is that you still have an innocent guy being tortured to death for other people's sins. Taking away the idea of a burning eternal lake of fire only solves part of the problem.
I considered Buddhism, but I decided to just be a good person in my own way, without following someone else's philosophy.
