Unforgiven sin last forever and that's why there's an eternal punishment. God gives us the choice to live with Him forever or not to live with Him forever, in eternity there are only two places to live. One for those who sought forgiveness through Christ will be in heaven and, one for those who do not seek forgiveness, those who believe they are already righteous in their own minds. Jesus warned those who thought that way. You're still talking about ultimate submission. It's repugnant. You assert that hell is for "those who do not seek forgiveness, those who believe they are already righteous in their own minds". What am I to be forgiven for? I did not choose to be born into this world. I simply was. Was my birth a crime? If not, why would I seek forgiveness? There is nothing to forgive. Furthermore, you make those who live on their own accord and carry out good deeds and conduct themselves as righteous, moral, just individuals out to be already damned, presumably because they believe they can do this without god. Well, they can and I can. I don't need a supreme being to rule over me to be a fine human.

You can say that sin lasts forever, but there is nothing that warrants eternal punishment. In my opinion, if the prospect of eternal punishment is on the table, one ought to reconsider how loving their deity truly is.
