Unforgiven sin last forever and that's why there's an eternal punishment. God gives us the choice to live with Him forever or not to live with Him forever, in eternity there are only two places to live. One for those who sought forgiveness through Christ will be in heaven and, one for those who do not seek forgiveness, those who believe they are already righteous in their own minds. Jesus warned those who thought that way. You're still talking about ultimate submission. It's repugnant. You assert that hell is for "those who do not seek forgiveness, those who believe they are already righteous in their own minds". What am I to be forgiven for?

The underlined is what I mean by those who see in their own mind they need no forgiveness.
Quote: I did not choose to be born into this world. I simply was. Was my birth a crime?
No and neither was mine.
Quote:If not, why would I seek forgiveness? There is nothing to forgive.
This again is what I'm speaking of, people who believe they do not need forgiveness, just remember Jesus warned people about this type of thinking.
Quote:Furthermore, you make those who live on their own accord and carry out good deeds and conduct themselves as righteous, moral, just individuals out to be already damned, presumably because they believe they can do this without god.
God says no man is good, why, because you will be judged by the perfection of God and the laws of Moses. Only one man ever accomplished a sinless life and He gave that sinless life so others could receive forgiveness. No one can live up to the law, read it and see how you've done.
Quote:Well, they can and I can. I don't need a supreme being to rule over me to be a fine human.
God ruling over you has nothing to do with living a better life, turning one's life over to God's guidance helps us to to so. Seeing yourself as righteous keeps you from seeing God.
Quote:You can say that sin lasts forever, but there is nothing that warrants eternal punishment. In my opinion, if the prospect of eternal punishment is on the table, one ought to reconsider how loving their deity truly is.
God is completely loving, He allows you to choose to stay separated from Him for eternity, He want force you to live eternally with Him. It's within the power He has, it's just not within His love to force you.
One thing you and many others seem to forget is it's God's creation and His purposes for the creation and the ways are set, no matter what you want to believe you can't change what God's will has purposed.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
