No religion doesn't come into this at all, I just believe governments could the money to a better use. For example helping the poor in their own country or even preparing for when we run out of fossil fuels in the near future.
C4RM5, wake up. Your Government doesn't want to do those things, it has nothing to do with an either or decision when setting aside money for science and tech funding. Most of the science and technology money goes into technology knowhow also of private companies and creating jobs anyways. Those funds are so ridiculously dwarved by the military budget anyhow.
