I think the main problem is that there is a huge double standard.

The Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-212) is a United States law which recognizes a child in utero as a legal victim, if they are injured or killed during the commission of any of over 60 listed federal crimes of violence. The law defines "child in utero" as "a member of the species Homo sapiens, at any stage of development, who is carried in the womb".

If a "child in utero" has legal rights in this case, why not in the case of abortion?

Of course this US law, no idea if other countries have similar laws.

You are aware that this is the Religious Right's work, yes? Trying to get the camel's nose in the tent, so later they can bring in the whole camel?

They know they can't outlaw aborting lawfully, so they're taking baby steps to get there.

Besides, who ever claimed that Congress acts rationally and without hypocrisy. Seriously.
