Catholicism is a club you're joined to by virtue of the vagina you entered the world from. You're confirmed blah blah blah later... who knows how it works. Fact is... you can be an atheist and a Catholic. You'd have to formally request excommunication to get your name off the books. The religion is centred on Christ from the new testament and the extra book Catholics seem to add to the mix. Some Catholics are non trinitarian apparently. So Christian in the very loose sense.
Sure I do and do't take responsibility for the rest of humanity. What's different between me and them? 'Why make the distinction between theist and atheist. Show me the difference regarding the subject in hand : superstition. "Religion" has its skeletons, sure. Were the abominable acts of terror born from Christ like motives or human failing?
How is praying superstitious? It's no good saying "because it is" Bri. This is a discussion forum. You're supposed to contribute something beyond that.
Anyone of any religious label in the world can simply go through the motions that is what is called a "cultural(insert label here)." Those are people who like the traditions but dont literally believe in a god.
But for anyone of any label if you have a god or gods and you pray to them, or if you even are praying to an object like a statue thinking it actually does anything more than make you feel calm or good, and that there is some magic that will give you what you want, that is a superstition.
Just admit you have no evidence for your god. No one will kill you. No one will hate you for being honest with yourself. But don't make excuses for things you have no evidence for.
