But... if you're just going to commit to pretending that pork doesn't exist, then.... ugh...
People know that pork exists. The whole reason certain people are religiously opposed to pork is that they know it exists. Their religious opposition would vanish completely if they didn't think pork existed, the whole basis of the claim is the continued verification that pork was not, in fact, a fever dream cooked up by a madman. So, in order to avoid offending these people, one needs to accept the premise that they already know and understand that pork exists, meaning that hearing that pork exists would not be a surprise to them. If they already know, what's there to offend? Unless the specific portions of the book was literally just "pork is rad, fuck those who don't like it," then the mere intimation that it exists, offensive or not, is merely a factual statement, and it's one that those who you're trying not to offend already accept as true.
