Why Religion is corrupt (on a personal note)

I live in America, full of religious people. I am 17 years old. So, since I'm not yet a legal adult, my parents can still punish me whenever they want, however they want, and for whatever reason they want.

My parents are VERY catholic. I'm an atheist. My parents hate this because I did not continue to believe in the religion of my upbringing (and of course THEIR religion)

I didn't tell my parents about my atheism until about a year...maybe year and a half ago. Of course, they were upset, but still had hopes that I would change my mind. ( they probably prayed that I would to. HA)

So...my mother, being the anal catholic that she is, didn't want to get me any Christmas presents this past year (xmas 2008) because I don't believe so why would I celebrate the birthday of Jesus? (even though he was born in July I'm pretty sure)

Well I understood that, and it was fine by me, but my father decided to get me some things, including a laptop as an early graduation present. My parents knew how bad I wanted one.

Then, about a week after christmas, I have Atheist Forums left up on my laptop. While I was out, my mother came in my room and saw the site. When i got home, my laptop was gone.

These are some of the things my parents said to me:
"I'd rather you be looking at porn than this nonsense"
"You shouldn't be using this computer for things we don't agree with"
"you may as well be going to stabyourparentsintheback.com"
"don't close the door to all the possibilities"
"don't be an idiot"
"this really shows us your lack of maturity"

and so on...

The next day my mother was crying, saying how horrified she was by the path I have chosen, and that she obviously did something wrong, and she just wanted to not have to be a mother anymore. She GROUNDED me, and left the house in tears for a few hours.

I love my mom. but...

I can't believe that she went so crazy and got so upset that I don't believe in a supernatural, all-knowing, all-powerful being that influences my life, that doesn't even exist. She goes mad at the fact that I believe in evolution, natural selection, while she believes in creationism and Noah's arch. She's mad that the "path" I have taken is a logical one, and not an ignorant one.

This is just one personal example on why I believe religion is corrupt.

I love my parents, but I wish they could see things my way sometimes.Confused
WWLD, I agree with your assertion about religion 100%.
Looking on the positive side of a bad situation, isn't it every teenager's obligation to revolt against their parents?
Most do, in your case you actually have something really substantial to rebel about.
More power to you....oh, and welcome to a land where reason rules.
HuhA man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?
