So eye for an eye still stands, even if he also tries to imply that it doesn't. We have a contradiction upon a contradictions. So again the reader is left to just pick their way out of each dilemma to match their preconceptions. Clearly people can and do take both interpretations. If they are "wrong" then God is a terrible author and doesn't care enough to come sort this stuff out.there is a word for an "eye for an eye", it's called "Justice", I don't think anyone here is against the concept of justice. Law requires a penalty or it's isn't a Law, Therefore the Law demands Justice.
Grace (mercy) supersedes the Law, those that are in Christ exist in a state of grace and are no longer under the law. The only Law for them is love - treat others how you would like to be treated.
Quote:Mark 12
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Quote:Matthew 7To be clear, it is impossible to get into heaven under the Law, because everyone is guilty of breaking it, therefore since Christ paid the penalty, the law no longer applies to all who've accepted the pardon.
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
