Maybe that's the idea. The guys in the funny hats might lack enlightenment but they're not as dumb as they look.

That was my first thought too, of all the churches touting for new members Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy really make little or no effort. If that's because of their reputation or the fact nobody can understand the services (especially the latter) I don't know, but they have to get expanding numbers from within rather than outside.
