One of the reasons I finally rejected it is the realization that God wouldn't have used a method of creation that entailed so much death and suffering. The other reason is that I found out that in fact evolution has not actually been proven true and there are alternate explanations for all the evidence which claims to prove it.

Either that, or god is so stupid he had to wait until human science came along so he could work out that what he had created was mammalian, not avian
Calling bats mammals rather than birds is simply a human system of classification. God doesn't classify things the way we do.
There really isn't any credible evidence that counters the totality of evolutionary support. I would imagine if I went through each of the different scientific disciplines that have independently verified evidence for evolution (biology, biochemistry, genetics, anthropology, paleontology, geology, archaeology, physics, etc...) You might be able to find a way to submit alternate theories for each item. But what you can't do is counter the wholeness, completeness, and elegance of the evidence that points to evolution through natural selection. And why reject evolution because God wouldn't use it, wouldn't rejecting God because evolution happens be more of a logical conclusion?
Just out of curiosity, do you think scientists call bats mammals for the hell of it? The classification system is a highly complex, controversial, and methodical system based on phenotypes and genotypes to determine evolutionary divergence and interspecies relatedness.
It is a human convention true, but ITS NOT A DAMNED CRAP SHOOT.
