Why didn't more women grow up and say: "Hey, wait a minute, this is bullshit."
That also seems obvi to me. Religion is more oppressive to women than it is to men. Many religious people instill a very strong sense of guilt in their followers. Everyone should feel guilty just for being born, but women have the extra guilt of being born female. I distinctly recall a day when I was maybe 7 or 8 and our pastor did an entire sermon on how women are naturally manipulative and that's why god commands men to be the leaders of the family and keep their women under their wing. It's to protect them from themselves. To save them from their own sinful nature, and as a father would use discipline to turn his daughter back to god so shall it be between a man and his wife. I will never forget that sermon so long as I live.
This is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. You were 7 or 8 and the bullshit bells were already ringing.

Our species stupidly confuses brawn as superior. This gets turned into comic book form in religion. The social structures in turn reflect these gender rolls and end up in religion as well. But our evolution has always depended on both sexes.
Our species has spent most of it's time in scientific ignorance as far as biology. It is also why you can find gay Christians too.
Dangle a utopia carrot to a mass and you can get them to go against their own self interests.
Fair enough.
I reject your reality and substitute my own!
