The Lutheran church I attended as a child had the European Jesus too. The funny thing is that I remember once talking to the pastor in his office in the early '80s (he was a family friend and we sometimes BS'd in private), and he had a picture of Jesus with stylishly slicked hair on one of his bookshelves. When he saw me smirking at the picture, he chuckled and said, "Apparently, Christ wasn't quite perfect. It seems he overdid the hair mousse."
