I'm so glad I get to participate in this thread... so I am currently debating with several xians on diply. Things have been quite heated there. The following is an excerpt from the comments section between myself and another commenter...

Praying doesn't do anything other than give some lazy person permission to get out of being active in actually doing something about an issue. Praying hasn't found a cure for cancer. Praying hasn't solved the worlds hunger problems. And I'm pretty sure volcanoes don't give a crap about praying because lava will flow where it wants to and all the praying in the world isn't going to stop it.

I wish I could convince someone on the internet of how silly they sound, but unfortunately I cannot.
Oh, I was talking about *name removed, *name removed, and Judi Lynn. Not the original comment I'm replying to.

James Hill, Are you insinuating that we sound silly because we make valid points? If so, your argument is INVALID and I welcome you to show physical proof that god exists. Please, by all means.

First of all, your argument about prayers is not at all accurate. No where in the bible does is tell you to be lazy.
Second, the other two were being completely rude and disrespectful. Not sure why people think it's okay to be a jerk when someone else believes in something you don't.
Third, if you have any religious belief, it is actually been proven to improve your health. So if it's true or not doesn't even matter. (psych 101)
Forth, I can't think a of a single explanation for how we are here aside from God creating us.
Evolution? Theory, and a very unscientific and illogical one at that.
Fifth, and I can't stress this one enough, this is a comment section. I have never seen someone have a complete change in belief or complete change in view point because of reading comment replies. I found myself a while back replying to everyone that disagreed with me, and all that happened is I got frustrated because they ignored every point I made and continued to argue. So, if you want to continue this reply stuff, well, go ahead.
Sixth, want physical proof? I'm not sure what you mean exactly, a being thats all around us isn't physical, and you probably don't want to accept the physical proof being you, me, everyone on this earth, and everything in this universe that He created, so no matter what I say you're pre-determined to disagree with me.
Regardless, have a nice day.

LMFAO. That has got to be the most ignorant bunch of statements made here yet!
First - I never said the BIBLE says if you pray you are lazy. That was my own opinion based on watching others pray and seeing NOTHING HAPPEN.
Second - your reply about the other two is generally what I would expect from an uneducated religious zealot.
Third - please back up your claim about religion improving one's health. I'd like to see actual documentation from accredited medical journals, studies from medical universities etc, not just some fact you made up in your head.
Fourth - it's not spelled forth. You obviously know nothing about Evolution. Even some christian churches believe in evolution to a point.
Fifth - what does this even have to do with my comment? I'm not trying to change anyone so this is a moot point.
And MOST IMPORTANTLY: Sixth: Weak arguments made from an even weaker person. The bible was written approximately 3000 years ago, supposedly taken from copies of copies of manuscripts that have never been found. According to the bible, the world is CURRENTLY about 6000 years old, give or take a few hundred years. If THIS is what you believe, James Hill, then please by all means explain to me how carbon dating puts the dinosaurs that actually did roam the earth, at well over a billion years old? Or did those just not really exist because they weren't mentioned in the bible? Carbon dating proves any point I make about the world being MUCH older than 6000 years.
But please continue to live in a fairy tale existence where the world is only 6000 years old and is probably flat. Because, well, fuck science.
