"Impossible?" Almost a pointless expression. What percentage can escape? The fact that someone does cannot overcome the obstacles of cyclic poverty, police brutality, broken homes, shitty schools, and, worst perhaps, the pervasive opinion of the rest of the country that these people are throwaways. YOu have a whole political party of scumbags demonizing them for being poor. It took a burning drug store to make white America sit up and say "what's going on in Baltimore?" They were pretty quiet when a guy got his neck broken in the back of a police van. What to guess how that happened?
I'll give the cops credit for showing admirable restraint last night. They probably know they are on thin ice as it is but at least they didn't overreact.
