It's really indicative of the kind of narrative a lot of media outlets want to paint though.
I'm a little embarrassed to say I honestly wasn't expecting 1 of the officers charged to be black, let alone 3. But I guess this shows the Baltimore situation is less about race and more about bad relations with police.
What is it indicative of? That black people hold positions in law enforcement doesn't change the dynamics that blacks are at higher risk of being mistreated, and even killed, at the hands of police officers, usually white, who then face no accountability for their actions. This is not just about Baltimore. It's systematic in my country and has been ever since it was founded. There were poor whites who were slaves prior to the Civil War, and blacks who held positions of superiority over other blacks and perpetuated the framework that granted them greater freedoms---called "Uncle Toms"---and that doesn't change the "narrative" that race had a role in land ownership and the lack of rights of those who worked the land as human property. I don't think it really makes a difference that 3 officers were black and 3 were white. The poor relations between police and blacks still remains a problem which is my government's responsibility to fix, and marches or riots in urban communities will continually result until they do.
