obama and the democrats had control of the White House and control of Congress during the first half of his first term. He didn't get shit accomplished when he had the opportunity to do so. He was more concerned with campaigning for obama care that he neglected everything else that was falling down around us, like jobs and the economy....and the deficit grew larger.

Well, the deficit had to grow larger given the economy at the time. But Obama cowered every time the Republicans threatened a filibuster. On some of the issues, I think he should have called the bluff and let the filibusters go in, and then beat the Republicans over the head with their rejectionism. While he may not have won too many independents with such a strategy, he certainly would have energized Dems and done better in the mid-terms, I think, much as Clinton did better in 1996 after the 1995 showdown/shutdown with the Republican Congress.

They didn't need to. Obama crumbled every time they hinted at using the tactic.
