Psychological trauma of that magnitude can certainly screw someone up enough that it might scramble their sexual identity. Which is to say that rape is never a remedy for anything, and any culture that feels that it serves a purpose is pretty fucked up. Then again, India's culture considers "honor killing" --in which a family member may be put to death for "shaming" the family, and one of the ways to "shame" the family is by being the victim of rape-- to be a moral and reasonable idea. It's both horrible and sad when the concept of raping your mother to "cure" your homosexuality is not the most fucked up thing about your culture.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
