There are some fiscal policies that I like from the Repubs from time to time, but the Repub party is so tied into the Christian right, I would have a hard time voting for one.
When every Repub candidate, at a debate, is proud of the fact that they don't believe in evolution, I just could not vote for one. Anyone that denies reality to that extent, cannot be trusted to make critical decisions.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
