Doctors also have previously made decisions regarding removing childrens tonsils back in the 90's and look what a mistake that has turned out to be in hindsight.
I personally don't quite know if I accept the idea that the desire to identify as the opposite sex is an actual mental condition, despite that I don't honestly care if a man wants to try and make himself a female or a woman vice versa. Whatever makes them happy, doesn't hurt anyone, they're big boys/girls now and can make adult decisions for themselves. It really isn't something I can relate to personally, I might like men but I've never had any desire to be feminine.
REGARDLESS EITHERWAY...This is a big mistake. You can just say this is delaying puberty but as others have pointed out this is going to have severe physical consequences if he pulls out, height is a very important thing for a man and that's just one thing. Physical strength, physical development....Heck he might as well go through the transition even if he doesn't want to by that point.
I'm all for transgendered individuals making the change, but I'm totally against under 18's beginning it. Not the dressing up or using makeup or whatever, but children can have pretty serious changes in personality. I've known at least one eight year old boy who played with Barbies who later went on to join the army. Hell, if I did everything I wanted as a kid I'd probably be living in a branch of McDonalds.
By all means buy the kid some girls toys, talk about it, think about it some more but don't make any damn serious changes like that before they can make rational decisions for themselves.
