(discussion went a mile a minute, probably got buried)
I feel like I have already explained my position on this at length, and that is why I did not respond.
I don't think it's wrong to challenge someone's beliefs. In fact, I think it's a good thing.
But I do think there is a right and wrong way to go about doing it. That's all I'm saying here.
Making fun of a friend is not the right way to go about it. And neither is constantly being on their butt about it.
Now, that doesn't mean I think making fun of people shouldn't be allowed. It just means I don't think it's a good thing to do. On or off the internet.
This is -also- the explanation that is given in those societies being overrun by radical islam. That there is a "right and wrong way", conveniently circumscribed -by- those radical authorities and amounting to a prohibition against criticism. If someone persists in making some claim, or persists in advocating some thing - telling them once may not do the trick. I'm sure that somebody disagreed with the mullahs at least once. Hell, there was probably a guy in the SS who stood up and said "Eine minuten bitte" (yes, yes, I know lol). Sometimes, persistence is required.
If I spent my time at stormfront and other white supremecist websites ridiculing their positions with the aim of getting at least the odd few to step back and take a look at what it is they've signed up to, would you not consider that a good thing? Regardless of whether or not you say you don't think it should be disallowed, you are disincentiving it, you are advocating for the taboo, socially. Potentially turning yourself into a tool. Do you see my concern?
