OK, let me put it this way:
If you ask me what happens when we die, I'll say "I don't know", which is the only really honest answer. We don't know much about the nature of consciousness.
If you ask me to speculate, with plenty of "perhaps" and "maybes" thrown in, I'll say I think reincarnation is a more likely model than others (Heaven, Hell, etc).
The Heaven-Hell model doesn't answer where we came from before we were born. If there is such a thing as "souls" and these things are eternal, then there must be a "herebefore" as well as a "hereafter".
