I had two uncles neither believed in God, they didn't go to church. They were good family men and good providers. They didn't hate religion they just didn't want to hear it.
Because it corrupts the morals of people, urges them to intellectual complacency, and uses an unappealable "authority" to justify the worst atrocities. It's a scam to separate the naive from their money at the same time it controls their behavior to ensure that the cash flow to the preachers doesn't stop.
