Right now American democracy is not looking good at all next to dictatorships in some other countries.
All powers involved friend or foe, it isn't a stretch to say that the more power one has, the more one thinks they can get away with anything.
Ethics is when you stop before you go too far, or when called out you step down.
And I agree, right now, our open system based on checks and balances is under threat.
The system of checks and balances no longer exist to be threatened.
