Its an interesting issue. We certainly don't want to dismiss or hide history and Lee's military prowess is definitely something to be acknowledged. What we don't want to do is honor anyone who took part in the Confederacy with monuments. That's not something to be celebrated. I don't believe there's any danger of Lee's accomplishments being lost to history and there are very appropriate places for historical items to be displayed. The lawn of city hall is not that place.
