You are missing the point: the church is NOT being forced, as far as I can tell, to perform the ceremonies.
Considering the plethora of churches within a mile of my house, I assume that it's because not all Christians agree with doctrine and therefore anyone who doesn't like the statutes of one church will leave and go to another. You are safe in your bigotry, my friend. You can't control what the rest of Christianity does anymore than I can the rest of atheism. And I wouldn't want to.

That is precisely the point, what takes precedence in a situation where the Church is not happy to perform the ceremony? The "right" of the gay couple to have an equal opportunity to be married in a Catholic Church or the right of the Church to refuse on grounds of belief about same sex marriage?
