First off I am so sorry you are dealing with this right now. Please remember it is only temporary. It may not seem like it now but coming from a guy who has been hospitalized too many times there IS light at the end of the tunnel.
Second, you are absolutely correct. Depression has nothing to do with atheism. I was diagnosed bipolar when I was a christian and all of my depressive episodes were as a christian. The nice thing right now for you is that you don't have to worry about god helping you, you can do the things to get healthy yourself, and you can!.
